Media work – food hygiene and safety

Professor Lisa Ackerley is passionate to spread the message that food hygiene and environmental safety is not difficult, expensive or time consuming – whether in a commercial setting or at home, it is easily achieved!

She wants to help people to understand hygiene issues so that they know why it is important to take measures to be safe. For example:

• Washing your hands costs virtually nothing, but could save you so much money if you think about the costs of being ill – time of work, time looking after children, prescriptions, even hospital visits.
• Cooking burgers to 75°C could save your life
• Sanitizing a chopping board where chicken has been prepared could prevent Campylobacter (two weeks of diarrhoea)!

Lisa’s work as an environmental health expert is quite diverse, and she appeared on a number of shows, including:
