E.coli

E. coli is a food poisoning bacterium that is commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded animals. Most E. coli food poisoning strains are harmless. Mostly it helps people to stay healthy but  some strains can cause serious food poisoning in humans . E. coli food poisoning has been associated with a number of serious outbreaks, some of which have been fatal.  

Food Poisoning - Salmonella

Salmonella is a type of food poisoning bacteria. It is usually found in poultry, eggs, unprocessed milk and in meat and water. It may also be carried by pets like turtles and birds.

The salmonella food poisoning bacteria attacks the stomach and intestines. In more serious cases, the food poisoning bacteria may enter the lymph tracts, which carry water and protein to the blood, and the blood itself. The bacteria attack all age groups  but children, the elderly and people who are already ill are much more likely to get a serious infection.

Symptoms of salmonella food poisoning

  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Headaches
  • Stomach cramps
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fever
  • Possibly, blood in the faeces
